Simply known as the ‘comfortable chair’ when they first appeared in France in the 1920s, comfortable was certainly fitting. Developed in the Art Deco period, these chairs moved away from function to embrace enveloping curves and comfort. Adopted and made popular by the gentleman's clubs in nineteenth-century England, the club chair was born.
Low-backed with plenty of seat space, the Carlton Club Chair has all the hallmarks of a ‘comfortable chair’ from the 1920s. With its distinctive moustache back, gracefully curved cigar-shaped armrests, elegant piping, and antique studwork, this chair exudes character and boasts a rich history. Made to last, the solid hardwood frame is carefully assembled using glue, screws, and dowels for optimal durability. The seat base and back are fully sprung and generously padded giving outstanding support. The seat cushion has a foam core encased in a plump fibre jacket for durability and unmatched comfort. Upholstered in our soft and supple Classic Leather - a premium semi-aniline leather with a soft sheen that develops subtle undertones when stretched - this chair epitomises luxury and sophistication.
Worth knowing…
Our chairs are crafted from genuine leather, which is a natural material endowed with unique characteristics such as scars, insect bites or wrinkles. While we adhere to rigorous standards to ensure that any noticeable marks are discreetly placed, we embrace these natural imperfections as they give each chair a distinctive personality.
