Simply known as the ‘comfortable chair’ when they first appeared in France in the 1920s, comfortable was certainly fitting. Developed in the Art Deco period, these chairs moved away from function to embrace enveloping curves and comfort. Adopted and made popular by the gentleman's clubs in nineteenth-century England, the club chair was born.
The Piccadilly chair embodies the timeless appeal of a classic club chair. It features plush 'sock' arms, and a rolled top back with subtle buttoning, all finished with elegant piping. Crafted for durability, the solid hardwood frame is meticulously constructed using glue, screws and dowels to ensure maximum strength. The seat base and back are fully sprung and generously padded for optimal support. Resting on square tapered legs made of hardwood capped with solid brass castors, this chair is both stylish and functional. Upholstered in our premium Club Leather, a distinctive full-grain aniline leather with a crackled appearance that has a slightly distressed matt finish. Soft and silky to the touch this leather is full of character and to top it all off, the seat cushion has a foam core encased in a plump fibre jacket, providing exceptional durability and unmatched comfort.
Worth knowing…
Our chairs are crafted from genuine leather, which is a natural material endowed with unique characteristics such as scars, insect bites or wrinkles. While we adhere to rigorous standards to ensure that any noticeable marks are discreetly placed, we embrace these natural imperfections as they give each chair a distinctive personality.
