Simply known as the ‘comfortable chair’ when they first appeared in France in the 1920s, comfortable was certainly fitting. Developed in the Art Deco period, these chairs moved away from function to embrace enveloping curves and comfort. Adopted and made popular by the gentleman's clubs in nineteenth-century England, the club chair was born.

Following the traditions of a classic club chair, Portland’s low silhouette and distinctive wings make for the perfect reading chair. Built to last, the solid hardwood frame has been glued, screwed and dowelled for maximum strength and supports a fully sprung seat base and back with plenty of padding and stuffing. Combined with a specially developed foam encased in fibre cushion that’s not only incredibly durable but plump and soft, it delivers outstanding comfort. Upholstered in our exclusive Rustic Leather, a natural ‘pull-up’ aniline leather, it has a soft buttery feel with a unique quality that matures with time. Decorated with antiqued brass studwork and raised on solid wood bun feet, it makes a stunning chair that would grace any quiet corner.
